Statement

These paintings explore the unconscious, with their cast of characters that can haunt us or illuminate our inner wishes. With claws and teeth and strange protuberances, these creatures are joined by shapes that resemble fantastic machines or surreal plants. Although brightly colored and humorously odd, the paintings touch our hidden fears. Some of the artworks relate to particular sayings that warn of risks, given by parents or teachers. Others address a more existential sense of danger. The images point to both the metaphorical and very real quicksand ready to envelop us.
